A multiplayer game based on the Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise on PlayStation was allegedly abandoned by developer Insomniac Games. This past week has been a chaotic one for those at Insomniac as the studio has endured a cyber attack which has exposed the personal information of many employees along with the company’s plans for the next ten years. Following this breach, Insomniac has issued a statement on the issue saying that it has been a “painful” time for the studio. Now, a new report has emerged that provides more details on one major game that was believed to have been leaked.

As per a recent article from Bloomberg, leaked documents that indicated a multiplayer Spider-Man project as part of this Insomniac leak are outdated and are no longer valid. The report states that this multiplayer title was ditched “a long time ago” based on sources that are familiar with Insomniac and its operations. Considering this, it becomes even more clear that much of what has leaked on the internet as a consequence of this hack of Insomniac may no longer be true as plans have certainly changed over time.

Before Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 ever came out, fans speculated that the eagerly-awaited sequel could feature multiplayer in the form of co-op. Although this did not happen, the idea made sense given that Spider-Man 2 focused on a duo of co-heroes in Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Apparently, Insomniac experimented with this idea for itself in some way as well before finally stopping its work on this idea. Still, it’s intriguing to know that Insomniac was once designing a multiplayer title in any way and raises more curiosity about whether the developer will revisit this idea in the future.
